Abstract:
Pervious concrete is a developing construction material used for sustainable solutions, which helps to restore the groundwater level based on its draining ability. In this study, the characteristics study was carried out at micro and macro levels to identify the behaviour of pervious concrete using aggregate gradation. At macro level strength, porosity and permeability were tested and at micro level XRD, FTIR, SEM and EDAX were analysed. In order to attain the wide pore network in pervious concrete, the fine aggregate content was reduced in mixes. Properties of metakaolin blended pervious concrete were examined in which metakaolin was added at 5% interval up to 20% of cement. The maximum strength of pervious concrete was achieved in 4.75mm-9.5mm size aggregate mix at 10% addition of metakaolin with cement and the better draining performance was attained in 9.5mm-16mm size aggregate mix due to high porosity and permeability.
