Abstract:
This paper aims to investigate the strengthening of the locally corroded concrete columns using the combination of FRP sheets and steel jackets. In this regard, an analytical study is conducted using ABAQUS finite element program. The corroded zone has been strengthened using three methods including the use of FRP sheets, steel jacket, and a combination of FRP sheets and steel. It’s worth mentioning that FRP sheets were mentioned in 1-layer and 2-layer cases and three different lengths, including 50% of the length of the corrosion zone, the entire length of the corrosion zone, and the entire corrosion zone in addition to 60% of the length of this zone in the upper part of the corrosion zone. By examining the results, it is concluded that strengthening corroded columns with 1-layer FRP sheets in a length of the corroded zone in addition to 60% of the corrosion zone length, causes the greatest ductility. Furthermore, strengthening corroded concrete columns with steel jackets in combination with 2-layer FRP sheets in a length of the corroded zone in addition to 60% of the corrosion zone length causes the greatest strength and thus improves the structural behavior of the corroded column.
