Abstract:

Among in-situ geotechnical tests, the dynamic penetration test (DPT) is less frequently employed as a computational tool for assessing the bearing capacity of shallow foundations. This paper introduces a new direct method, based on the number of blows Nd measured by the DPT, to evaluate soil bearing capacity when the DPT is applicable. After detailing the database used for calibration by correlation, the paper will focus on presenting the method and its features. As part of the validation process, a direct comparison of the proposed DPT-based method with the PMT-based method, as well as the plate loading test, demonstrated its good predictive capability.
