Abstract:

One of the biggest social problems is distraction resulting from mobile phone usage. Where distracted driving has resulted in an increase in injuries and fatalities. As this is a road safety concern, it is critical to understand how using a phone while driving contributes to an increase in traffic accidents and deaths. This study intends to investigate the behavior of drivers who use their mobile phones while driving by studying important driver data. This study examined drivers' attitudes on mobile phone use while driving using a questionnaire survey of 613 participants. To guarantee proper representation, samples were gathered from several areas of Anbar Governorate, Iraq.

Results indicate that 68% of drivers use their phones while driving their vehicles, mostly on urban roads.  Despite access to higher education and modern vehicles, 51.4% of drivers never switch their phones to silent mode. Logistic regression revealed that behavioral factors—such as call response and purpose—were stronger predictors of phone use than demographic traits.
