AbstractThis paper presents a hybrid metaheuristic approach to find the optimal shape of double curvature arch dams, considering dam-reservoir interaction and hydrodynamic effects under time-history seismic analysis. Magnetic charged system search and big bang-big crunch are utilized to present a hybrid method. A real-world arch dam is considered as a numerical example to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. Results obtained from this study are compared to those reported in literature. The results show that the new method yields better performance and is more effective compared to its rivals.
