AbstractThe objective of this paper is to present a practical method of construction of the P-Y curves for piles in sand on the basis of the cone penetration test (CPT). This method was developed from a detailed interpretation of full-scale lateral loading tests on single piles carried out in sandy soils in France, and is based on a fundamental relationship between the P-Y curve parameters, the cone resistance, and the lateral pile/soil stiffness ratio. Validation process carried out by comparing the predicted load-deflection curves to the ones obtained from a worldwide database of full-scale piles showed a very good predictive capability of the proposed method.
